The Louvre- en plein aire

Wanting to capture an image of the Louvre as a keepsake of our trip, it took some searching to find a spot that had enough information without becoming an architectural rendering. And I needed to find a spot to tuck into that was out of the scorching sun!  I knew this spot was right when I came to it. (I invested in an annual membership so I could go often even though we were in Paris for only a month!)

Travel in Europe!!

London for a few days and then to Paris. I had an opportunity to paint a late afternoon image in a small travel sketchbook of the walls of London Tower. We are now trading apts with a couple very near the Eiffel Tower and so I had a morning to paint this. It's hard to avoid the cliche of the symbol of Paris, so I referenced it without focusing on it.

Arches National Park in Moab, UT

Thanksgiving weekend trip to Moab and several hikes in Arches National Park.  This is a view at the end of a short hike called "Park Avenue".  Some recent rain left a few puddles for a reflection in the river bed.

Thanksgiving Sketches in Death Valley and Oceanside

Family camping in Death Valley for Thanksgiving and had just enough time for a single sketch at Death Valley Scotty's Castle. Then off to Southern California and had the opportunity for one more sketch at Mission San Luis Rey in Oceanside.

Daybreak paintout event

I completed these paintings in preparation for the event mentioned in the last post.  It was glorious weather that day and I have been asked to paint at another event on Sat. Oct. 26 in Layton, UT.  It is an Open House for Destination Homes.
Looking forward to painting on that site!

Along the West Coast

Visiting family and friends I didn't get a lot of painting time but did do these four. Quick, small, and using an absorbent paper.  All scenes near our kid's homes.

Oakley, Idaho, my hometown

I've been to Idaho twice this month to help my parents and a brother ran the "Spud Man" triathalon.  I didn't have time to paint but decided to post these 4 small paintings from earlier trips. Oakley, my little hometown is such a formative part of me that I can drive around remembering many events from my childhood. These are from Oakley and nearby towns.

Tour in Upper Midwest

Just returned from an Upper Midwest Tour singing with the Mormon Tabernacle Choir.  What a great week and a half! 6 concerts in 5 states. We had some personal time between concerts, sound checks and bus rides to explore. I had time to do some quick watercolors.
