The Louvre- en plein aire

Wanting to capture an image of the Louvre as a keepsake of our trip, it took some searching to find a spot that had enough information without becoming an architectural rendering. And I needed to find a spot to tuck into that was out of the scorching sun!  I knew this spot was right when I came to it. (I invested in an annual membership so I could go often even though we were in Paris for only a month!)

Museum of Romantic Life

On a blistering hot day in Paris we visited the Musee de la Vie Romantique. Home of painter Ari Scheffer whose work we saw at the Louvre. He hosted such luminaries as Geoge Sand, Chopin, Delacroix, Ingres, Liszt, Rossini, Dickens, Gounod... You get the point!

Paris Cemetery

This is Cimetière Passy.
I love cemeteries for exploring, painting and contemplating. I love sacred spaces of all kinds, I'm interested in the human need to seek the divine.
There are larger cemeteries in Paris with famous folk buried there but I find the hunt for celebrity monuments distracts me from the experience of being in these amazing places. (Besides, this one is 5 minutes from where we are staying.)

Travel in Europe!!

London for a few days and then to Paris. I had an opportunity to paint a late afternoon image in a small travel sketchbook of the walls of London Tower. We are now trading apts with a couple very near the Eiffel Tower and so I had a morning to paint this. It's hard to avoid the cliche of the symbol of Paris, so I referenced it without focusing on it.

The "City of Rocks" and Castle Rocks State Park, Idaho

Memorial Day Weekend was a chance to go paint in a place that is magical for me, an amazing natural place very close to where I grew up in Oakley, Idaho.  Brad Teare and I spent two days exploring and painting at the "Silent City of Rocks" and Castle Rocks State Park in the adjacent valley.   The first day it rained on and off which made for dramatic skies and light, and we had to protect our paintings and duck under rocks or climb in the car to stay dry.  The second day was perfect weather and sunlight.

Arches National Park in Moab, UT

Thanksgiving weekend trip to Moab and several hikes in Arches National Park.  This is a view at the end of a short hike called "Park Avenue".  Some recent rain left a few puddles for a reflection in the river bed.
